LAKE MONTEZUMA PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY PUBLIC AND BOARD MEETING

 

DATE OF MEETING 9-08-2008

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER:  5:05 pm

 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Sharon Brooks, Janet Aniol, Steve Sprinz, Carole Penfield-Krowne, Karin Krippene, and Chris Beisecker. A quorum was present.

 

OTHER RESIDENTS PRESENT:  5

 

OTHER GUESTS PRESENT FOR Lodge ceremony:  not counted

 

The meeting began in Rollins Park with a dedication of the stepping stone for community benefactor Eddie Lodge which was purchased by LMPOA.  Bill Cowan shared stories about Eddie, and Eddie's long time friend and companion Ruth Hunter was present for the ceremony.  Members of the Rimrock/Montezuma fire district also came to honor the memory of Eddie Lodge, who left a legacy of $500,000.00 to the fire district at his death to enable the purchase of fire hydrants.  Eddie also left $10,000.00 to the Kiwanis.  The meeting was then moved indoors to the Adult Center.

 

I. MINUTES:  The reading of the minutes of August 4, 2008 was waived.  A motion was passed approving the minutes of August 4th.

 

II. FINANCIAL REPORT. The financial report was handed out to the board. (See attached).  The funds in the checking account include the $12,000

from Red Rock Development for the traffic study.  A motion was passed approving and accepting the financial report.  Chris said he received a thank you letter from Bob McDonald for the LMPOA donation.

 

III. GUEST SPEAKER.  Charity Worden is the coordinator for the after-school program started this year at the Beaver Creek School.  The main goal is academic enrichment and tutoring, but there are also sessions for fine arts.  All students in grades K-8 are eligible. There is an activity bus that leaves at 4:30, which costs $35 per day to run.   The cost for students to enroll in the after-school program is only $10.00 for the entire year.  The time slots are 2:10-3:10 p.m. and 3:20-4:20 p.m.  The school is partially funding the program using tax credit dollars and advertising on buses. 

 

A motion was passed for LMPOA to donate $1000.00 to the after-school program at Beaver Creek School.

 

Charity Worden also said the school is looking for volunteers to be "reading buddies".   Volunteers must undergo background checks and fingerprinting.

IV. COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

            A. TRANSPORTATION.  Janet presented her full monthly written report and answered questions.  (See copy of report attached to these minutes).  BCRC has scheduled a Public Transportation Community Meeting on Sept. 20 from 10-11:30 AM at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

            The McGuireville interchange project was delayed due to a shortfall in federal funding, which is expected to be fixed by an appropriation.  The good news is that bids came in lower than estimated.

                       

            B.  PLANNING and ZONING.   Steve gave a brief presentation. He continues to attend the Planning and Zoning meetings and monitoring any proposed zoning amendments.  

 

            C. PARKS.   Chris said the park needs some light bulbs and floats for the fountain.

 

            D. WATER/FLOODING.  Karen attended a class on watershed mapping

Duane Wiles is not available to speak at LMPOA this year, but will try to arrange a time next year.

 

            E. PUBLICITY.  The Bugle did not print the press release sent to them regarding the Eddie Lodge ceremony.  Instead, they shortened the release to a few lines about Eddie as the owner of the liquor store.  Steve noted a reporter had been in attendance at the ceremony and perhaps there would be some publicity.  It was suggested that the full press release be sent to the Adult Center for their newsletter.

 

            Carole contacted Rimrock High School and they will send their band, the "Rimrockers" to perform at the first "Sunday in Rollins Park" get-together for the community on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2:00 p.m.  Sharon will contact Crickets to get use of an electrical outlet cord for the band to use.

 

            F. WEBSITE.  A community members stated that the website has been very valuable and led to her deciding to move to Lake Montezuma.

 

            G. BEAVER CREEK REGIONAL COUNCIL/ COMMUNITY PLAN.  The questionnaire has been mailed to all residents.   Everyone is urged to fill it out and to come to the community meeting on November 15, 2008.

 

            H. LMPOA BANK ACCOUNTS.  Bob McClarin is no longer able to be a signer on the three accounts at National Bank of Arizona. These accounts are

Business Checking Account #0518001368, Business Money Market Account # 0676001441, and Business Index CD Account #0006721730.

 

            A motion was made to change the signature cards on the above-referenced accounts to remove Bob McClarin's name and to add Sharon Brooks, President, and Carole Penfield-Krowne, Secretary as authorized signers. The motion was passed unanimously.

 

 

VI  ADJOURNMENT

 

            There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
